Is anyone up in the northeast?

Hello Pam!

Not currently in NC as I returned to San Luis Obispo County which sits halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles on the coast of California. I returned to CA in 2019. Otherwise I would love to grab coffee with you

I truly think of NC often, it was one of the most beautiful places I ever lived. I lived in Myers Park and Mooresville and loved Mooresville the most. You might think this is really silly but what drove me back to CA is not being able to see the horizon. I was born in AZ and have always lived on the west coast with big open skies for watching the sunrise and sunsets. When I got to NC, I was overwhelmed with the beauty of the dense tree forest but soon realized how that affected being able to see the colors of the sunrise and sunsets at the horizon. I found myself longing for big open skies. I miss everything about NC, the beauty of Asheviile and Boone and my drives on the Blueridge Parkway. The flora and fauna was the most beautiful I have ever seen. And!! You have rain! Something that is so lacking in this dry climate.

Have you had any luck finding community there? Iā€™ve been searching for about 3 years.

Tell me more about you and what youā€™re searching for! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl Ann, I have friends who miss the big open sky as well. I guess you need to be near the top of a mountain to see that. I love the trees! And I love our area, still Southern hospitality.

I havenā€™t found a community in the area yet. Iā€™m looking for a ā€œcohousing community,ā€ a little different than some of the other ā€œintentional communities.ā€ Charlotte has had a group, but suspended it after the group broke into two, some wanting rural, others an urban cohousing community organization. Another failed attempt was in Mocksville area going toward Winston-Salem. The only think in the Lake Norman area Iā€™ve recently found is an RV & Tiny Home park, but the residents donā€™t own the land their homes sit on. Land and homes are much too expensive now, so Iā€™m not sure I could even afford to move at this point. But I want ownership of the home/unit and land my home sits on, plus co-ownership of common areas. Thatā€™s part of the appeal of cohousing.

At this point, I may just stay in my neighborhood, and have made several close to semi-close friends with four neighbors. That might be where God is leading me. I need help to excavate the land around my home to make it flat for yard (walking purposes) and veggie gardens. Iā€™m hopeful an opportunity that doesnā€™t cost too much will come my way so that these things can take place.

Mooresville is a very cute community, but growing way too fast. Many people are moving north of Statesville.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough & more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, and a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace to today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Melody Beattie

Hello Lauren, I am also in the Portland area! I would love to connect!

Hello, you can call me Jayden. I live in southern Illinois. Iā€™m not living in an intentional community but I hope to find one!

Iā€™m pretty good at writing, and doing overall yard work in general. Iā€™m also very good at researching and picking up new information. I have used tech for most of my life, and would consider myself on the tech savvy side (programming, networking etc). I also love helping people and teaching people about religions (religiously unaffiliated). Iā€™ve been trying to get into herbalism and have been learning a lot about different types of herbs and their psychological effects mainly.

Iā€™m here hoping to find my people, and be able to move into an intentional community.

Greetings, We are Riona and Logan, a couple in West Linn OR who have been married for a year and a half. I (Riona) canā€™t get the idea of intentional community out of my mind, been curious for a few years now, but actively interested since spring of 2022. Iā€™ve really enjoyed the Inside Community podcast and its taught me a lot. Research has shown me that there are lots of intentional communities in Portland, but only a couple in Clackamas or Washington Counties (where we prefer living), and we havenā€™t found one that feels right to us. Iā€™ve experimented with the idea of starting one and being a founder, but the idea is daunting, lots of friends who want to participate but none that have the drive to push it to fruition as a cofounder.

More about us: Logan works at the grocery store and loves games and playing with other peopleā€™s furbabies. He is good at cooking and is clever at learning new things. Iā€™m a Celtic/fantasy/folk singer who performs at various Renaissance faires in OR and WA and other adjacent events. I also do some consigning at local vintage shops, and some mental health peer support (Iā€™m a certified MH peer support specialist).

Together we enjoy being part of the local faire scene (Renaissance faires, fantasy festivals, pirate campouts etc.), spending time in connection with the earth/nature/water, church, and music. We hope to improve our gardening skills. We currently live in a small apartment on the edge of West Linn which we really like for now.

We hope to find a community that pertains to:
Personal liberty, collaborative cooperation, personal responsability, respect and kindness, connection to nature, creatives/artists, Renaissance/fantasy/reenactment/artistic people, sharing skills to make the world better for each other, bdsm+, agreeing to disagree and still respecting each otherā€™s intrinsic value, thinking outside the proverbial box, compromise, ability diversity, etc.

I doubt we could find something with all of these things being relevent, its just a snapshot of who we are and what we value and do and enjoy and seek.

We like the idea of living in a:
Resident-owned mobile home park, co-housing community where each family has their own freestanding dwelling that doesnā€™t share walls, other type of similar situation.

Thank you all and I wish everyone well, Victory and Blessings,

Hello, we are Doris and Steve
Our plans are developing an intentional community in the Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan on property we are acquiring. Doris has experience with Non-Violent Communication and worked in education. Steve owns a bicycle business, retired from Elementary teaching and has a Residential Builderā€™s License with Carpentry and Masonry experience.
Together we started an organic farm with vegetables and fruit trees. Our plan is to start out with prospective people interested in developing an intentional community. Our timeline is 6 months to one year, while we delve into our first phase. We are located on a major river and in close proximity to a state-wide bike trail that connects to national trails. A couple of years ago we completed an intentional community class and look forward to learning more. Recently we managed a couple of local Campgrounds. This area is very rural, yet close to other larger communities. Looking forward to interacting in this blog and meeting potential candidates to join our endeavor.
Thanks, Steve

Hi Lauren, weā€™re neighbours, I was a lifelong Portland resident until moving out to West Linn this last summer. I like the idea of an intentional community where there are different options for housing, tiny houses, standard houses or modulars, maybe some shared housing options for folks, etc. Have you found a community to move your tiny home to yet?

So we rarely have earthquakes, our last big one was 2001, but they do occasionally happen. Wildfires are a very real threat here in Oregon for sure, moreso lately.

Hello all,
Iā€™m Chris the owner of a small 5 acre smallholding in Ireland with a couple of polytunnels located in the woods. I have a working eater wheel, and Iā€™m debating about setting up an intentional community of some type. But I have no clue where to start hence my presence here

Hi everyone! My name is Chenchira, I identify as gender fluid but use she/her pronouns. Iā€™ve lived in intentional communities for close to three years and Iā€™m moving to the Pacific Northwest this summer, either wanting to join an IC or to start one. I currently live at Magnolia Collective in Louisa, VA and have lived at Living Energy Farm for a year. Excited to read other peoples posts!

I think we all need to be kind in here, even when we donā€™t understand something. Just think of her as she/her+ some masculine traits.

I empathize with you so much! My fear is that when we finally move onto our land, we will be surrounded by QAnon types. Iā€™ve never been out West so I donā€™t really know the mentality, but I have relatives in Southern California - my land is in Cantil, not far from the Honda testing facility - and I was told that Kern county is ā€˜trumpyā€™. Iā€™m an Independent who votes progressive but my fiance is on the conservative side, he just doesnā€™t like the far right. Plus weā€™re an interracial couple and some people are offended by that. We want to have a community land trust but definitely donā€™t want militia/anti-gov types around, just peaceful animal lovers who want to take care of the land, like ourselves. Iā€™ve posted community listings on IC off and on since the mid 2000s and never really got any serious responses so I guess Iā€™ll have to try Craigslist or Facebook. Sigh. Good luck with your health, and if you need to chat, I can be reached via screenwriter1970@gmail.com (yes, I write screenplays and actually have had 2 films produced with a 3rd in production at this time).
