Seeking Founders for Northern Michigan Eco Village

Located on 10 acres with Muskegon River frontage near Big Rapids, MI. Additional adjacent property is available in the future. We are a couple with experience in building, education and non-violent communication skills. Ready to help heal the environment. Our vision is a permaculture landscape to restore the balance of nature. Currently we have a small fruit tree and vegetable garden. Also operating a small bike shop on the property, since 2 rail trails are very close. we are very involved in community projects to enhance our surroundings. Open to forming a community that invites people of all needs. One two-family house exists, us living in one space. Opportunities for sustainable housing are also present. Further intentional aspects are open for discussion. Please contact us for further discussion!

Sounds terrific. Do you have pictures?

Not always cloudy…lol

Something you might look into. Organic gardening is a somewhat low level of a more natural way of doing things. Permaculture is somewhat better, but still not complete. Permies are very concerned with soil and soil fertility. They are interested saving resources such as using more efficient stoves to heat with. Companion planting is big. ~All the stuff that is essentially “mechanical”. But (at least the ones I’ve run into) have no belief in, caring about, sometimes even aggression towards even mentioning, anything of a Spiritual nature. For the permies I know, there are no Fairies or Nature Spirits. Dowsing is fantasy. God just a “sky story”. They have no interest in the half of life that is Spiritual. And so their gardening is only half gardening. Perhaps a much better form of gardening is Biodynamics. Biodynamics takes into account all the aspects of complete gardening. The mechanical and the Spiritual. It is much more complete.

This is great advice. Many of the other suggestions for regenerative farming spoke of letting the land participate, which is something I experienced living on a reservation in Arizona. Science and spirituality can exist together. Is this how your garden perpetuates?

On the land where we live, for several generations now, we have a number of gardens. Some organic, a couple permaculture, some bio., and all mindful of our responsibilities to Soil, Plants and Spirit. We are constantly mindful, or asking if you will, of whatever God or Spirit would have for us. That always includes listening. Sometimes that listening takes the form of actually hearing Wind, Birds, Insects, leaves of Trees rattling as they move. And sometimes it’s the Voice suggesting what may be next. ~~~Actually, listening to All, isn’t just in the garden. It can be in the yard and woods. And sometimes driving down the road, -and hearing a caution. Living in the world of your mentioned “science” is living in half a world. Find the other half, Listen, and it can be with you everywhere. Earth can be such a happy place, maybe especially if you live (participate) in all of Earth.

I am working on some Ecovillage events in Michigan for summer 2025, centered around an Arts/Nature/Sustainability “retreat” that is being held at Interlochen Arts Academy, July 13-16. I’m working with others who are planning ecovillage and intentional community activities for July 11-12 and 17-18 around Northwest Michigan, too.

Please send me your email address so that I can send you the planning information. We want to learn more about your activities, too, and help share success stories state wide.

THANK YOU!
