Hi. I’m Julie (She/Her). I’m a 56yo, married mother of two young adult women. I’m living in Miami-Dade, FL. But I’m working on transitioning to Waynesville, NC.
My father has 13 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which I am envisioning as a self-sustaining intentional community retreat center. I have little to no experience with any of those things. I’ve never lived in an IC. But I think I’ve been headed in this direction since I worked at a residential treatment program for women with children from 1993-2000.
I’ve been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for (30?) years. But NC does not have reciprocity with FL. So I’m also working on transitioning into Life Coaching.
Spiritually speaking, I most closely resemble a Unitarian Universalist, though I am a minister in the Universal Life Church.
I didn’t notice anything in the Onboarding section about politics. So I hope it’s okay to say that I’m “a little nervous” about what’s happening here in the US (and abroad).
I care about a lot of political issues (climate change, LGBTQ rights, reproductive freedom, civil rights and democracy in general, etc). I love animals and meaningful conversations about politics/religion. But I’ll settle for karaoke, dancing, games, or puzzles
I’m here to learn what I can about starting an intentional community and maybe meet some people who would like to help make it happen
Greetings: As I have found out, as long as you do not go too far with heavy leftist propaganda, People here will act nice (LOL a little personal inside joke)
Also, I am hoping I will end up in WNC, ENC, or ETN, and as I have been “rooting around” looking for a home, I came across a FB group that is set up to network the ICs and communities in mid-Appalachia. LMK if you’d like the link.
Hi MrPieceofWork Yes, please!
I would LOVE the link! I’ve done a little research. And it seems there are numerous ICs in NC. Sometimes I wonder about so many people trying to do their own thing instead of combining efforts. But then I think we may be in need of quite a few sanctuaries in the near future. Pleasure to “meet” you. May you be safe and well
may as well invite everyone* to it… we need to be networking and organizing.
*all who “get it” those who are going to be antagonistic need not be involved obv.
Check us out! PeacefulValleyVillage.com - we should have an open tiny home space in Eugene very soon!
Congrats and safe travels! If you make it out to Oregon, look us up!!!
I feel this one: " Also, I’ve become disenfranchised with current society and modernity. The more I learn about how our society is structured and how it didn’t have to be this way… I feel more need to get away from it all."
I think you have found the right place… Nice to meet you btw…

Hi - I am Dave and just joined IC.org today after many months of research. Currently in the white mountains of AZ but have lived throughout the US and am highly mobile. Seeking likeminded others who want to build a new IC - unless something like what I’ve describe below already exists.
I prioritize self-sufficiency in terms of food, water, protection and energy – where possible. My background is in entrepreneurship and social enterprise – so responsible economic self-sufficiency is also important – where applicable and where possible.
I’m grounded and organized. Have access to resources and seek others who do too - or some equivalent value. I am also in long term sobriety and although I am not purely focused on abstinent communities I am not interested in people who use alcohol or substances more than rarely.
Also I am open to merging models – like IC’s and training schools – or IC’s and business incubators. If interested feel free to contact me: d@vanscend.org
I am also a fiber artist! I am a second-gen communitarian in Norcal. Let me know if you’d like to swing by to visit! My community, a very large homeowner’s association, doesn’t have a listing, I’d have to get everyone else to agree to that and then I’d have to volunteer to be the point of contact and I just haven’t prioritized that. But I have a workaway host site if you want to check it out: I call myself Chickenfoot Farm. Also you can check out my hippie commune kid memoirs at lovesickvalkyrie.substack.com. Good luck–what a great adventure!
Good evening.
I am familiar with intentional communities, but have not given it serious consideration until recent years.
I seek to learn and hopefully create one with the help of others. I am a POC and US citizen who has become very averse to general society, it has come down to the point of my spending most days of a month indoors. I feel a smaller, tight-knit collective of like-minded individuals would be not only therapeutic but mutually beneficial as well, were we to form an IC.
Thank you
thanks for that. ya this is konfusing lol
hey did u ever get my email?
Zach, any luck? I’m located near north Jersey in search of the same. Keep me posted or email me. Shainamjones@gmail.com
Hello all! I am a married man in my mid 40’s looking to start a community in Minnesota. I have a vision of a community that is comprised of tiny houses, shipping container homes, pads for RV’s with hookups, yurts, etc. This community would be as off-grid as possible and welcoming to ALL. I’ve been reading through a lot of the threads on this website and want to emphasize that point again. Welcome to ALL…LGBTQ+ friendly, race, and religion friendly. I want a place where folks are free to express themselves creatively and without fear. I want to raise goats and grow our own crops as much as possible. I want to work together and have community meals and potlucks and sit around a bonfire and try to reconnect with nature. Some things I do not want in this community are politics, hate, closed minds, hard drugs, and laziness. Putting these feelers out to a larger group to see who is interested in pursuing this dream with me. Thanks and love to all.
Hello, my name is Wendy Pressoir and my partner is Eric N. Best. Together we are reforming a community Eric created called the Mariposa Group. We are located near the Louisiana and Arkansas borders, south of Texarkana Texas. The town is Bivins. We have decided to take the course so that we can have a specific structure for thinking and talking through the many issues to decide in community creation and to have folks to communicate with on the journey. We are excited to have a place to talk about community, with people interested in joining a community, starting one, and those experienced in community living or forming. Community seems ever more important in this world we find ourselves navigating in 2025!
Regards to all.
Hello, I am Cliff and along with my wife Marlene are thinking of starting an intentional community based on sustainability, growing our own food and working with nature. We have 38 acres in Nevada County, CA. We were commercial farmers for a number of years. I believe that we were the first certified biodynamic and organic mushroom farm in the nation. Though we never lived in an intentional community I have lived in a Benedictine monastery and forestry camp on the Six Rivers national forest. I am here to learn from others on how to start a community.
HI!
My name is Bradley (24 female). Currently located in north Georgia but willing to relocate for the right fit. I am a recent college graduate and am currently working in the corporate world but am seeking a community where I can enhance my skills and contribute meaningfully to a collective! I love gardening, music, dancing, animals, and spreading positivity to anyone I can. I am very interested in deepening my spiritual connection to the earth while enhancing my skills like farming, fishing, building, land sustainability practices, etc…
Unfortunately, I have not been a part of a collective yet, but I can cook, clean, babysit the childrens (I have experience in childcare of all ages!), take care of animals, and jump in on any projects that need extra hands!! Additionally, I would not mind putting my accounting degree to use and helping with financial organization if needed.
On a side note, I have a beautiful dog and cat that would have to come with me anywhere I go. I would appreciate any advice on this topic as I am not sure how receptive villages are to newcomers with extra mouths to feed!
I am posting here to hopefully grow my network in the community and connect with like-minded folks! We all know why we are drawn to this particular lifestyle, so I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience and different perspectives
This sounds like a great idea best of luck!! I’d love to hear more about your journey as you guys start forming
