Why aren't there more children living in intentional communities?

When my wife and I were looking at intentional communities, highest on our priority list was that there were other children there. The communities that did have a school with children seemed much more like like the traditional western version of suburbia, just in a more exotic location.

We eventually landed at Finca Sagrada in Southern Ecuador and have developed a very strong vision that is designed for and around children. Many of our visitors who have been exploring communities around the world say the same thing: they rarely saw children at the intentional communities and eco-villages they visited.

Why is this so?

I’ve begun writing about our community vision and my experience here on Substack if anyone is interested. My goal is to create a field of coherence around the idea that our world needs intentional communities designed for children and families. You can read it at trewregenerative.substack.com and check out our community’s website and socials at www.fincasagrada.com.

I hope to hear from some of your experiences with children in community, as the question has been on my mind and curious to hear from others’ experiences.
