Hollywood’s Toxic Underbelly with Maureen Ryan | Adam Conover’s Factually!

The entertainment industry is frequently called out for posturing as politically enlightened and progressive, yet beneath this veneer lies a troubling history of toxic, racist, and emotionally abusive working environments. This conduct would be deemed unacceptable in other sectors, so why does Hollywood often turn a blind eye?

More crucially, what measures can be taken to address it? In this episode, Adam is joined by author and journalist Maureen Ryan to discuss the cycle of abuse and accountability, and the best course for remedying the ugly underbelly of show business.

Abolition. Feminism. Now.: A Transformative Exploration of Intersectional Freedom Work and Movement Genealogy

Gina Dent and Emma Vigeland discuss this enlightening collaboration by distinguished scholar-activists Angela Y. Davis, Gina Dent, Erica R. Meiners, and Beth E. Richie, which challenges the misconceived notion of abolition and feminism as separate or incompatible endeavors.

This profound work showcases the concealed legacies of queer, anti-capitalist, women-of-color-led, grassroots, and internationalist feminist movements that have significantly shaped contemporary abolitionist and feminist paradigms.

Illustrated with visual depictions of grassroots activists’ efforts, the book sheds light on historical connections, global insights, and practical everyday actions, envisioning a future that fosters collective prosperity and well-being through community-based organizing and empowerment.

Why Don’t Cities Use Hexagon Blocks? | City Beautiful

Most cities have streets with gridded, organic, or cul-de-sac patterns. Why don’t they use hexagons? They can be tiled indefinitely and create safer intersections.

This video relied on this great article:
Ben-Joseph, E., & Gordon, D. (2000). Hexagonal planning in theory and practice. Journal of Urban Design, 5(3), 237-265.

I really enjoyed this video and learning about Michelle’s farm, right in the part of the world I live in!
