If you're asking for grant money try to use the funds to make money!

Yep, I’m a non-profit person. I do a lot more than write grants tho. There is research, fundraising, endowments, corporate sponsorships, fiscal sponsors for those without a 501c3, etc.

But what I would like for people to know, is that in this competitive grant environment, if you are asking for funding, please make sure that you are asking for money that will help make you money!

Funders want to see non-profits get to the point where they do not have to continue to ask for funds. Ironically, they want us to be self-sustaining too!

Just something to think about if you’re planning to look for funds this year. Also, funders like to see groups working together and applying together, so if you are a new group, try to pair with a more established group to strengthen your grant competitiveness. Also, consider pairing with a non-profit in your area that complements what it is that you do. For example, if you raise goats or have craft-making, then consider pairing with a group that offers education to youth in regard to agriculture or the arts.

Hope someone finds this helpful!
